The Southern Fulton Indians suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of McConnellsburg by a score of 36-34. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Southern Fulton in their matchups with McConnellsburg: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ethan Mellott, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Mellott posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Stotler, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Leading McConnellsburg to victory were Dom Jefferson and Shaffer Earley. Jefferson scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Earley dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Jefferson hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games.
Southern Fulton has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for McConnellsburg, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Southern Fulton will be playing in front of their home fans against Claysburg-Kimmel at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Claysburg-Kimmel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Wednesday. As for McConnellsburg, they will head out on the road to square off against Northern Bedford County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Northern Bedford County: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while McConnellsburg has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road.
