Basketball Game Preview: Mitchell Mustangs vs. River Ridge Royal Knights

Mitchell is 2-8 against River Ridge since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Mitchell Mustangs will host the River Ridge Royal Knights at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

River Ridge is hoping to do what East Lake couldn't on Thursday: put an end to Mitchell's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Mitchell really took it to East Lake for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-25 win. With the Mustangs ahead 52-19 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Kaylana Little and Brianna Coure were among the main playmakers for Mitchell as the former went 7 of 12 on her way to 14 points along with five assists and five steals and the latter posted ten points in addition to eight assists and eight steals. Coure has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaya Hunter, who put up nine points along with five boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, River Ridge waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They claimed a resounding 54-26 victory over the Gators. Given the Royal Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Gators are ranked 443rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

River Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.9 points per game. As for Mitchell, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.
