The Roanoke Catholic Celtics's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 71-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Benedictine. While losing is never fun, Roanoke Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Benedictine is ranked 30th).
Several Celtics players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Demarcus Brown, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 1 assist. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Johnson, who scored ten points along with seven assists and two steals.
Roanoke Catholic's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Benedictine, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Roanoke Catholic will head out on the road to take on North Cross at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. North Cross and Roanoke Catholic are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Benedictine, they will be playing at home against Virginia Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
