The Vanguard Knights suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 56-32 walloping at the hands of P.K. Yonge. While losing is never fun, Vanguard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 433rd, while P.K. Yonge is ranked 70th).
Vanguard's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sanaria Gunsby, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Sylnya Roberson who scored four points along with ten rebounds and six blocks. That's the first time this season that Gunsby scored 15 or more points.
P.K. Yonge found their leader in underclassman Ashlyn Young, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Young is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reniyah Clark, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Vanguard and nudges their season record down to 3-14. As for P.K. Yonge, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5.
Vanguard will take on Citrus at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for P.K. Yonge, they will head out on the road to challenge Wildwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wildwood is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
