Farrington and Kalaheo are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Governors will host the Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Farrington took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Kaimuki, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Governors came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs on Thursday, sneaking past 16-15. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Governors.
Meanwhile, Kalaheo faced McKinley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 19-3 win. The game marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season.
Brooke Ho Cordes was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Ho Cordes was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Kalaheo got a massive performance out of Ivi Young, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two hits gave Young a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Franklin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Kalaheo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Kalaheo's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-3. As for Farrington, the victory got them back to even at 2-2-1.
Farrington suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Kalaheo in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Governors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
