Chase Heid was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Sunrise Mountain's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jorge Campillo, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4.
Sunrise Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .608. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 21-4 to Perry.
Brayden Higby was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
Sunrise Mountain pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Notre Dame Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Notre Dame Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sunrise Mountain has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Notre Dame Prep, though, as they've been averaging 11.8 hits. Given Sunrise Mountain's sizable advantage in that area, Notre Dame Prep will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sunrise Mountain came out on top in a nail-biter against Notre Dame Prep in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sunrise Mountain since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
