The Pymatuning Valley Lakers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-14 win over Crestview.
When it comes to explaining why Crestview lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maxwell Hawkins. Despite the final result, he rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown.
Pymatuning Valley's win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-8 Mathews and 2-8 Grand Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.5% over those games). As for Crestview, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Pymatuning Valley will take on Mogadore at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mogadore is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. Crestview does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
