The Riesel Indians will square off against the Meyer Ravens at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Riesel has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Riesel can now show off 15 landslide victories after their most recent matchup last Friday. They blew past Axtell 57-25 at home. Given Riesel's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 465th, while Axtell is ranked 1319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Meyer had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They strolled past Texas Wind with points to spare, taking the game 40-25.
Meyer's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Skylar Hicks led the charge by scoring 11 points. Shelby Starr was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Riesel has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Meyer, they pushed their record up to 17-12 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Riesel was dealt a bruising 51-21 defeat at the hands of Meyer when the teams last played back in December of 2020. Can Riesel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
