There's no place like home for the Portage Mustangs, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. They strolled past Cambria Heights with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 59-44. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Portage has scored all season.
Portage was led to victory by Owen Gouse and Trae Kargo. Gouse scored 18 points along with four steals, while Kargo scored 18 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kargo has scored at least 25% of Portage's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bode Layo, who scored ten points.
Portage pushed their record up to 4-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points per game. As for Cambria Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portage will face off against Conemaugh Township at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Conemaugh Township's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matchups. As for Cambria Heights, they will head out on the road to face off against Northern Cambria at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
