Mountain View and Eagle are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mavericks will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Mountain View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Centennial, who was ranked 15th at the time (Mountain View was ranked first). The Mavericks never let the Patriots get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory on Friday.
Not much got past Patrick Wilson, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Centennial off the board. Wilson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Beckham Hatfield, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted over his last three games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Schneidt, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Eagle sidestepped Middleton for a 5-4 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Vikings since April 25, 2023.
Owen Brent was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Eagle has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Mountain View, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mountain View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. However, it's not like Eagle struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mountain View skirted past Eagle 4-3 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
