The Woonsocket Villa Novans were the 72-69 winner over the Barrington Eagles when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Woonsocket fell to Barrington 55-50. While losing is never fun, Woonsocket can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Barrington is ranked third).
When it comes to explaining why Woonsocket lost on Thursday, one person who can't be blamed is Aaron Kelly. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Juelz Stengel, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Leading Barrington to victory were Matt Raffa and Nick Scandura. Raffa scored 19 points, while Scandura scored 26 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Scandura has scored at least a third of Barrington's points.
Woonsocket has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Barrington, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woonsocket will take on Cumberland at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Barrington, they will be playing at home against Westerly at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Westerly is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
