Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Ashland's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Ashland's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Hopkinton Hillers by a score of 7-4. This was a revenge game for the Clockers: when they faced off against the Hillers back in April, they had to take a 10-1 defeat.

Michael Schreiber and Chris Bratica were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Schreiber tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bratica pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ashland is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8 otherwise. At the plate, Schreiber went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Bratica got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nolan Sodaberg, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Devin O'Brien, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Ashland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Ashland has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hopkinton, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6.
