Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Niles North

Niles North extended their winning streak to four on Saturday, bumping them up to 9-4. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Rolling Meadows Mustangs. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.

Isla Kapellas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Sofia Campos and Olivia Infante did most of the damage at the plate: Campos went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Infante went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Infante also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alexis Ochonicki, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Niles North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rolling Meadows only posted a batting average of .160.

As for Rolling Meadows, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat they have suffered since March 31st.

On Rolling Meadows' side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Rappa, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Niles North has already played their next matchup, a 13-0 loss against Vernon Hills on the 21st. As for Rolling Meadows, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Round Lake on the 20th.
