New Palestine (Ind.) snapped the five-game winning streak of
Mt. Vernon (Fortville, Ind.), with a 20-0 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Blake Luker touchdown pass to
Nolan Guedel in the first quarter, the Dragons were up 12-0 at the half.
New Palestine grew its lead to 20 points entering the fourth quarter. NP scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown pass by Luker to
Duke Blackwell.
With the win the Dragons extended their winning streak to nine games. New Palestine defeated Greenfield-Central 51-7 last week.
New Palestine had given up an average of 7.8 points prior to the contest.
The defeat comes as a step back for Mt. Vernon, who notched a 20-12 victory over Delta in its previous outing.
Mt. Vernon (7-2) will play a playoff game against Beech Grove next week, while New Palestine (9-0) will take on Pendleton Heights also in a playoff game.
