The Los Lunas Tigers will square off against the Eldorado Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Los Lunas sitting on four straight victories and Eldorado on ten.
Los Lunas is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against La Cueva by a score of 9-6.
JJ Utash made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jonah Utash, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Eldorado faced Cleveland in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Golden Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Storm 8-7.
Cooper Burak tossed a big game, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, John Wofford was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Brody Hoffman, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Eldorado's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Los Lunas, their record now sits at 19-10.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Los Lunas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Eldorado struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Los Lunas couldn't quite get it done against Eldorado when the teams last played two weeks ago as they fell 7-4. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
