If the Barnwell Warhorses were riding high off their 70-28 takedown of the Wagener-Salley War Eagles on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Barnwell took a 46-32 bruising from Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Barnwell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Bamberg-Ehrhardt is ranked 84th).
Despite the loss, Barnwell saw an underclassman step up: Vashahd Scofield scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Damahjai Devoe, who scored six points.
Leading Bamberg-Ehrhardt to victory were Anthony Williams and Isiah Johnson. Williams scored 11 points, while Johnson scored 11 points along with five assists. Eric Parker was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Barnwell's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-2. As for Bamberg-Ehrhardt, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
Barnwell's road trip will continue as they head out to face Swansea at 9:30 a.m. on December 27, 2023. Swansea is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Bamberg-Ehrhardt will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Royal Live Oaks Academy at 7:45 p.m. on January 2nd.
