Baseball Recap: Massapequa Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Massapequa had won six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 3-2 to make it seven. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Chaminade Flyers. The Chiefs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Justin Graham looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bobby Engelhardt, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Tom Connelly, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Massapequa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Chaminade, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.67 runs.

On Chaminade's side, Danny Anicito and Collin Anderson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Anicito went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Anderson went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Chaminade is 3-1 when Anderson posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Jake Settanni was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Massapequa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chaminade, they will face off against St. Mary's at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Flyers are facing the Gaels at the right time seeing as the Gaels are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
