Jacoby Harnen looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
At the plate, Elijah Barr was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Chase Montigney also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Pittston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in five consecutive matches.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Crestwood and Wyoming Valley West, and Crestwood kept the tradition alive. The Comets had just enough and edged out the Spartans 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted against the Spartans since May 7, 2019.
The team relied heavily on Caleb McManus, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Mylet, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Pittston's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. As for Crestwood, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Pittston's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Patriots have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Crestwood, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Pittston continue to outrun the ball?
Pittston took their win against Crestwood in their previous meeting on April 1st by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
