South Adams is 2-8 against Adams Central since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Starfires will welcome the Jets at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
South Adams took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Woodlan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Starfires narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Warriors 6-4. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Derek Weaver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because South Adams is 4-2 when he allows at most one hit, but 5-8 otherwise. Weaver was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sty Pyle, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of South Adams' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Zaden Baumer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
South Adams kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Adams Central brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on Fort Wayne Crusaders with a sharp 10-3 win on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Jets as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Like South Adams, Adams Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Ethan Funk. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Funk a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jacob Miller was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lawson Deathe, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
South Adams' win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Adams Central, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11-1.
