The Surprise Valley Hornets were the 50-45 winner over the Hayfork Timberjacks when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Surprise Valley had to suffer through a rough 83-33 loss at the hands of Hayfork. Surprise Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-15.
Surprise Valley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Iina Nabahe-Henry, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Paul Bartolo who scored six points along with nine rebounds. Nabahe-Henry also posted two blocks for the first time this season.
Hayfork's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Cavalli, who scored 16 points along with eight steals and seven assists. Cavalli has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tatem Wiley, who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 3 assists.
Surprise Valley has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Hayfork, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
Surprise Valley will take on Bethel Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hayfork, they will head out on the road to take on Tulelake at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Leo Leon and Cavalli.
