Midview is 1-9 against Elyria since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Middies are taking a road trip to challenge the Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. Midview has given up an average of 68.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Midview is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Avon on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Middies were beaten by the Eagles 80-48. While losing is never fun, the Middies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 663rd, while the Eagles are ranked 130th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Luke Jockel, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Young, who posted 11 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elyria). They walked away with a 90-77 victory over Steele on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since February 10, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Elyria's win came from a few key players that Midview will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rondell Grimmett, who shot 75% from the field en route to 25 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (71%). Jermiah Daniels was another key player, going 10-for-16 to rack up 21 points in addition to six assists and four steals.
Midview's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Elyria, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Midview has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Elyria struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Midview was dealt a bruising 75-45 defeat at the hands of Elyria in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Grimmett, who shot 47% from the field on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. Now that the Middies know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
