2A Catawba Valley recap Nov. 7, 2012
Newton-Conover extended the longest winning streak in 2A Catawba Valley this week by beating Ashe County, 49-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
South Iredell took down West Lincoln 69-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lachaston Smith threw for 42 yards and one touchdown and ran for 191 yards in the win.
The Vikings' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Marcus Guerrero threw for 48 and one touchdown and Jaylon Stockton had 61 yards receiving. Scott Miller helped South Iredell's passing attack out by catching one ball for 24 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Davin King and Rasheed Degree South Iredell has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. King leads the league in passing with 1434 yards, while Degree has rushed for 729 yards this season. Maiden's Ricky Taylor leads the league in receiving yards with 700 on 54 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Newton-Conover takes on Bandys. Brint Russell's team is currently in second, while the Trojans are in fourth.
Bandys made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,965 from 5,360. The improvement was the result of 34-7 victory over East Burke last week.
