The Westlake Rams will square off against the Starks Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
Westlake managed to slip by DeRidder the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Rams came up short against the Dragons on Friday, falling 10-4.
Emma Hutchinson and Hallie Wilrye stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hutchinson went 3-for-4 with one triple and one double, while Wilrye went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That double marked the first that Hutchinson has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Starks came into Thursday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Johnson Bayou with a sharp 27-4 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Charleigh Landry made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last three games. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with eight stolen bases, four runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Starks got a massive performance out of Kynzlie Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynslee Stinson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Starks always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .789. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Starks back to even at 7-7. As for Westlake, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4.
Westlake got the 'W' when the teams last played last Tuesday against Starks by a conclusive 19-4 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
