The Bellaire Big Reds will head out to face off against the Cambridge Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cambridge took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Bellaire, who comes in off a win.
Bellaire made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Shadyside, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Big Reds were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Tigers on Tuesday. The Big Reds not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024.
Bellaire got a great performance from Marissa Pacifico as she struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Addison Kovach was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Calleigh Holt, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Bellaire was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Cambridge was a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They came up short against Weir, falling 9-1.
Cambridge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Kenworthy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Kenworthy snagged this season.
Cambridge's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Bellaire, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-1.
Cambridge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bellaire has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Cambridge, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Bellaire's sizable advantage in that area, the Bobcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bellaire might still be hurting after the 16-10 loss they got from Cambridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Big Reds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
