Basketball Recap: Flowing Wells Now 10-2 over Last 12 Games

Flowing Wells won the last time they faced Buena and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Flowing Wells Caballeros came out on top against the Buena Colts by a score of 50-37. Given the Caballeros' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Colts are ranked 150th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Flowing Wells to victory were Nevaeh Urenda and Allison Verdugo. Urenda posted 21 points along with seven steals and five assists, while Verdugo dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Urenda is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 24 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Nadia Hernandez, who scored five points and five boards.

Flowing Wells smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Several Colts players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kalel Palacios, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Palacios has posted since back in December of 2023. Kashari Bullard-Baker was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Flowing Wells is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Buena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-6.

Flowing Wells didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-31 defeat against Catalina Foothills on the 16th. Buena has also already played their next match, a 70-38 loss against Pueblo on the 17th.
