After a string of three wins, the Sun Valley Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 44-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marvin Ridge. While losing is never fun, Sun Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Marvin Ridge is ranked 26th).
Sun Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Vaughn, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Zoe Bradley, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Sun Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Marvin Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Weddington the next time they take the court. Sun Valley will head out to face Weddington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Marvin Ridge will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
