Bethany Community has gone a perfect 9-0 against Leadership Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wolves will be playing at home against the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Bethany Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Bethany Community needed a bit of extra time to put away Clover Garden School. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Grizzlies. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Audrey Waddell made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Mattie Southard was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gracie Marshall, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Bethany Community was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Leadership Academy won against Atkins last Wednesday with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Falcons' pitcher stepped up to hand Carver a 16-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Like Bethany Community, Leadership Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashlyn Koerber. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Koerber was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Leadership Academy let Caleigh Buwalda and Emory Maxwell run wild. Buwalda went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Maxwell got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That home run was Buwalda's first of the season. Alyssa Hopkins was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
The win was the third in a row for Leadership Academy, bringing their record up to 7-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Bethany Community, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Leadership Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bethany Community has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Leadership Academy, though, as they've been averaging 12.8 hits. Given Bethany Community's sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bethany Community took their victory against Leadership Academy in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 10-4 score. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
