Adrina Hicks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing six bases while going 2-for-4. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jill Butcher was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Cook, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Westfall was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Piketon hadn't done well against Unioto recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Redstreaks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Shermans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Redstreaks have posted since April 29, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Aubrey Heath, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Shanks, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
The win made it two in a row for Piketon and bumps their season record up to 7-1. As for Westfall, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Westfall couldn't quite get it done against Piketon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 11-8. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
