The Greenwood Woodmen suffered their biggest loss since November 14, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Center Grove, falling 70-15. While losing is never fun, Greenwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while Center Grove is ranked second).
Center Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rachel Wirts led the charge by scoring 19 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Wirts' trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Annee, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Greenwood has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Center Grove, the victory (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 22-1.
Greenwood's road trip will continue as they head out to face Perry Meridian at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Perry Meridian is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for Center Grove, they will square off against Bloomington South at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
