It was a good run, but the Avery Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to Sulphur Bluff. Avery has not had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Sulphur Bluff's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matthew Overly led the charge by scoring 18 points along with five assists and two steals. Overly has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dakota Klemptner, who scored 15 points along with six steals.
Avery's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-15. As for Sulphur Bluff, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avery will play host again and welcome the Wildcats, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bloomburg has now lost 16 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 17. As for Sulphur Bluff, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Indians at 7:00 p.m.
