Lisbon is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Maranacook is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Greyhounds will host the Black Bears at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lisbon 4, Maranacook 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lisbon and Winthrop, and Winthrop kept the tradition alive. The Greyhounds fell just short of the Ramblers by a score of 7-6 on Friday.
JT Hoyle put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hoyle was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cyrus Tefft made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Jacob Fitzsimmons was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Maranacook ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Mount Abram 5-4. The Black Bears haven't had any issues with the Roadrunners recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Like Lisbon, Maranacook also got a great game from a two-way player: Grady Hreben. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Hreben was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Longfellow, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Walker Dumas, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Lisbon's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3-1. As for Maranacook, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lisbon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Maranacook struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lisbon might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Maranacook when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Greyhounds have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
