The West Grand Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 51-32 bruising from North Park. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Grand in their matchups with North Park: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, West Grand saw an underclassman step up: Stran Lechman scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lechman has scored all season. Cooper Martinson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Park to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gavin Pittington, who scored 14 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Graham Cornelison, who scored 12 points.
West Grand dropped their record down to 1-8 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road. As for North Park, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
West Grand on the road again on Saturday and play against Vail Christian at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Vail Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Saturday. As for North Park, they will be playing at home against Rangely at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Rangely is ranked 290th, while North Park is ranked 294th).
