Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Kadyn Proctor of
Southeast Polk (Pleasant Hill) is the 2022 MaxPreps Iowa High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-7, 330-pound senior offensive tackle helped the Rams go 12-1 and capture the Class 5A state championship for the second straight year.
In a 49-14 win over Valley (West Des Moines) in the title game, Proctor helped pave the way for Southeast Polk to rush for 432 yards and six touchdowns. The Rams totaled 690 yards of offense in the victory.
For the year, Proctor provided the muscle for two Southeast Polk running backs –
Harrison Gibson and
Abu Sama – to rush for over 1,000 yards. As a team, the Rams pounded out 3,364 yards on the ground and 55 touchdowns.
In four playoff games, the
Rams bullied the opposition for 1,131 yards on the ground and 16
scores while outscoring opponents 174-31 thanks in part to Proctor's domination up front.
Committed to the University of Iowa after fielding 45 FBS offers, Proctor is the nation's No. 11 overall prospect and No. 2 offensive tackle according to
247Sports.com.
Proctor is the second straight Iowa POY from Southeast Polk. Last year, it was current Iowa Hawkeyes freshman defensive back Xavier Nwankpa who earned the honor.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released January 10.
