Mountain Ridge hasn't had much luck against O'Connor recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions will challenge the Eagles at 3:45 p.m. Mountain Ridge is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
On Thursday, Mountain Ridge needed a bit of extra time to put away Pinnacle. They came out on top against the Pioneers by a score of 4-1.
Gianna Torres made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 17 over eight innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Italia Carpio, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Kyra Harrison also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Meanwhile, O'Connor faced Desert Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Eagles fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 3-1. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
O'Connor saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charleigh Schuettler, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Mountain Ridge pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for O'Connor, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mountain Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .378. However, it's not like O'Connor struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
