Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Farmington Scorpions, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by La Cueva 45-6 on Friday. Farmington has struggled against La Cueva recently, as their match on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
La Cueva was led to victory by Cheeto Lumbrera iii and Cameron Dyer. Lumbrera iii rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns, while Dyer rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Dyer has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last six times he's played.
La Cueva's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Mason Posa.
Farmington has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for La Cueva, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Farmington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. La Cueva will be playing at home against Las Cruces at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Las Cruces is ranked fifth, while La Cueva is ranked fourth).
