The Williston Red Devils will take on the Trenton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Williston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Williston proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 11) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Lake Weir. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Devils have posted since March 28, 2025.
Ethan Morrow tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Aiden Phillips was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Kenan Bellamy was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Trenton put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over The Villages Charter. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.
Brant Bivens and Mason VunCannon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bivens didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, VunCannon tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. At the plate, Bivens went 2-for-5 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI, while VunCannon went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Holden Beauchamp, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brayden Cobb, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Williston's record now sits at 5-3. As for Trenton, their record is now 9-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Williston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Trenton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Williston skirted past Trenton 13-12 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
