The King William Cavaliers lost against the Mechanicsville Mustangs back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. King William was outmatched by Mechanicsville on the road and fell 75-28. King William has struggled against Mechanicsville recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mechanicsville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elizabeth Hardwick, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Hardwick is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kate Carlton was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with 6 steals.
King William now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Mechanicsville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
King William will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Essex at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Essex focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 53 on Monday. As for Mechanicsville, they will head out on the road to face off against Spotsylvania at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Spotsylvania will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Mechanicsville is ranked 11th).
