Basketball Recap: Lekendric Phillips Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Bolivar Central

Haywood won the last time they faced Bolivar Central and things went their way on Friday too. The Haywood Tomcats enjoyed a cozy 83-69 victory over the Bolivar Central Tigers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tomcats.

Haywood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lekendric Phillips out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. Phillips has been hot for a while, having posted 18 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Jaybyon Snipe was another key player, going 8 of 15 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds.

Haywood was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bolivar Central only racked up 14 assists.

When it comes to explaining why Bolivar Central lost, don't look at Kealan Polk. Despite the final result, he went 11 for 15 en route to 27 points and three steals. That's the most points Polk has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tametric Harris, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Haywood is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Bolivar Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.

Haywood will square off against Fayette Ware at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. Fayette Ware knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 games -- so hopefully Haywood likes a good challenge. As for Bolivar Central, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 69-63 victory against Middleton on the 1st.
