The La Cueva Bears waltzed into their matchup on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-54 win over Hobbs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory La Cueva has posted yet this season.
La Cueva was led to victory by Jordyn Dyer and Eva Love. Dyer dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Love scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Love hasn't dropped below 15points for eight straight games. Antonya "Toni" Lucero was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
La Cueva pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.4 points per game. As for Hobbs, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-2.
La Cueva won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Volcano Vista at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Volcano Vista focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. Hobbs won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sandia at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Averaging 74.2 so far this season, Sandia's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Hobbs better be ready for a challenge.
