The Newtown Nighthawks will be playing at home against the Notre Dame Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Newtown's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Notre Dame Catholic has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Newtown put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past Weston 62-34 at home. Given Newtown's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Weston is ranked 131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Catholic came up short against New Fairfield on Thursday and fell 39-32. That's two games in a row now that Notre Dame Catholic has lost by exactly seven points.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Madison Gibbs, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Elise Chanka, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Newtown's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Notre Dame Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Newtown beat Notre Dame Catholic 48-36 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Will Newtown repeat their success, or does Notre Dame Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
