Red Bud hasn't had much luck against Gibault Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Musketeers will head out to take on the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Red Bud is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last nine games.
Red Bud had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Okawville on Tuesday. The Musketeers blew past the Rockets 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Musketeers, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Derrick Whelan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Tyson Bohnert was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Landon Ruebusch was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Red Bud hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Okawville struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gibault Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They never let Sparta get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Monday. Considering the Hawks' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Not much got past Peyton Schaefer, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Sparta off the board.
At the plate, Tyler Frierdich and Nolan Snell did most of the damage at the plate: Frierdich went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI, while Snell went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Gibault Catholic is 3-1 when Frierdich posts two or more runs, but 0-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dylan Schaefer, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Red Bud pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gibault Catholic, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-11 record.
Gibault Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Red Bud hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. It's a different story for Gibault Catholic, though, as they've only averaged .217. Will they be able to contain Red Bud's hitters?
Red Bud couldn't quite get it done against Gibault Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Musketeers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
