AISA AA Region 1 recap October 8, 2013
Edgewood Academy extended the longest winning streak in AISA AA Region 1 this week by beating Coosa Valley Academy, 38-35. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
East Memorial Christian Academy moved up to 271 from 313 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats were able to move up by besting Crenshaw Christian Academy 35-16.
Maurice Fears provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Springwood defeated South Montgomery County Academy. Fears' favorite target this week was Fears, who caught 2 passes for 32 yards.
Q Vickers put up the best numbers through the air as Evangel Christian Academy lost to Autauga Academy. He finished with a total of 3 completions for 34 yards and 1 touchdown. Vickers' favorite target this week was Xavier Lane, who caught 2 passes for 26 yards.
Edgewood Academy's Taylor Hawthorne and Josh Crawford have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Hawthorne has thrown for 1,303 yards this season, while Crawford has 24 catches for 365 yards. The Wildcats' Fears leads the league in rushing yards with 883.
At the moment, the Generals are in second, while Springwood is in fourth.
Thomas Hill's team took down the Raiders 40-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Fears ran for 113 yards and caught 2 passes for 32 yards in the win.
