The Tucson High Magnet School Badgers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 56-37 victory over Marana. Given Tucson High Magnet School's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Marana is ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tucson High Magnet School found their leader in underclassman Destiney Brown, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least a third of Tucson High Magnet School's points. Kamila Vasavilbaso was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Marana had strong showings from Adrian Griffin, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Malaysia Roebuck, who scored seven points along with 15 rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Griffin has scored all season.
Tucson High Magnet School is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Marana, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tucson High Magnet School will take on Rincon/University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Rincon/University focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. Marana's road trip will continue as they head out to face Sunnyside at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Sunnyside will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
