Basketball Recap: Socastee Extends Winning Streak to Five

Socastee won the last time they faced Wando, and Bryson Sams did his part to make sure it happened again. The Socastee Braves blew past the Wando Warriors 64-44 on Thursday thanks in part to Sams, who went 11 of 16 on his way to 32 points and six rebounds. The match was his sixth in a row with at least ten points.

Wando's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Owen Schafer, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tait Horine, who had 14 points.

The win (which was Socastee's fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. As for Wando, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Socastee won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cane Bay at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cane Bay knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Socastee likes a good challenge. As for Wando, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge Bishop England at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wando is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
