Two dominant guards in Bri Madore and Mary Portwood are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cypress Lake Panthers are on the road again on Wednesday and plays the Parrish Community Bulls at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Cypress Lake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Parrish Community is ranked 93rd).
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Cypress Lake can now relate to. They had to suffer through a rough 66-34 loss at the hands of the Pirates. Cypress Lake has not had much luck with Port Charlotte recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Cypress Lake saw an underclassman step up: Lilly Witz scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Parrish Community on the road against Sebring on Friday as the team secured a 59-32 win. Parrish Community pushed the score to 46-18 by the end of the third, a deficit Sebring cut but never quite recovered from.
Parrish Community's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Portwood, who scored 19 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds, and Sarah Decker, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 19 rebounds. Kaiyle Lacy was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with four steals.
Cypress Lake has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season. As for Parrish Community, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-7.
