Softball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Mount View's Winning Streak

Mount View dropped their record down to 11-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders by a score of 7-6. If the Golden Knights were looking for revenge after losing 4-0 to the Crusaders when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Phoebe Dudgeon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kayleigh Rose made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Greater Beckley Christian, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-5. That's two games straight that they have won by just one run.

On Greater Beckley Christian's side, Leah Adkins was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Adkins was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Aislinn Pelfrey was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Kynsleigh Pelfrey was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Mount View will welcome Summers County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Knights are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. Greater Beckley Christian will be paying especially close attention to Mount View's game: after Mount View faces off against Summers County, they'll take on Greater Beckley Christian again at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
