On Friday, the Silverado Skyhawks faced the Liberty Patriots in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Silverado took a 84-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of Liberty. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Tuesday (60), Silverado still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Silverado still got an impressive performance from Cyril Franklin, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Franklin is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Goss, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Silverado smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Leading Liberty to victory were Tyus Thomas and Tyler Bright. Thomas scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Bright scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bright has scored all season. Andre Porter was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Silverado and nudges their season record down to 14-7. As for Liberty, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.
Silverado will look to defend their home court on Monday against Coronado at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Coronado's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Liberty won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Arbor View at 6:15 p.m. on January 20th. Arbor View is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.7 points per game.
