They were just one part of a punishing run game: La Canada was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 174 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 28 in total. Jayden Clorfeine delivered a perfect 5-5 game. One of the most memorable scores? An impressive kickoff return for a touchdown from Brandon Mohaghegh.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when South Pasadena took on Monrovia on Friday. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 23-21. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
La Canada better keep an eye on Trey Freking. He was instrumental in South Pasadena's win, rushing for 110 yards and two scores. Freking is becoming a predictor of the Tigers' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 3-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). South Pasadena also got help from Grayson Ebner, who showed off his sure hands for 83 receiving yards.
La Canada's record now sits at 7-0. As for South Pasadena, their record is now 3-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. La Canada has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 250.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Pasadena struggles in that department as they've been averaging 171.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
La Canada lost to South Pasadena on the road by a decisive 28-10 margin when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
