Baseball Game Preview: St. David Tigers vs. Patagonia Lobos

St. David has gone a perfect 10-0 against Patagonia recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Tigers will square off against the Lobos at 3:45 p.m. St. David is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

St. David gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Valley Union by a score of 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Owen Judd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. St. David is 5-2-1 when Judd allows three or fewer earned runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Judd was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Judd wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Merrill, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Grant Haymore, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Patagonia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They lost 16-6 to Duncan.

Patagonia's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for St. David, they now have a winning record of 9-8-1.

Patagonia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. David hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. It's a different story for Patagonia, though, as they've only averaged .207. Will they be able to contain St. David's hitters?

Everything went St. David's way against Patagonia when the teams last played on April 7th, as St. David made off with a 13-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
