South Shelby put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past the Monroe City Panthers with a 50-44 victory. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Panthers are ranked 51st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Shelby's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Belle Roush, who posted nine points along with six boards and five steals. Roush has been hot recently, having posted five or more steals the last three times she's played. Hannah Gaines was another key player, putting up 12 points and five rebounds.

South Shelby's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Monroe City, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

South Shelby wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-57 win against Palmyra on the 14th. As for Monroe City, they will venture away from home to face off against Notre Dame at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Monroe City is facing Notre Dame at the right time seeing as Notre Dame is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
